ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • One person was taken to the hospital after a fire broke out just before 6 a.m. Friday along Inwood Court in West Deer Township—Allegheny County, and fire crews stayed on the scene nearly an hour later while officials did not share the injured person’s condition—officials said.  WTAE

CRIME NEWS

  • The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office warned residents about a phone scam where a victim lost over $8000 after receiving a call that falsely threatened a jury duty fine. Sheriff Kevin Kraus said scammers spoof their numbers and advised residents to hang up and call 412-350-4700 if they receive such a call.  KDKA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Members of the Tree of Life Synagogue launched a traveling exhibit at the University of Pittsburgh to honor the 11 lives lost in the 2018 attack. The exhibit, called Lessons from the Tree of Life + Lighting the Path Forward, will show tens of thousands of objects at the University Club Library from March 27 through April 25 before it moves on to Cleveland.  WTAE
  • Today, Pittsburgh welcomes spring events as Phipps Conservatory’s Spring Flower Show opens this weekend with each room featuring a seasonal bloom for four weeks while Baldwin Township hosts its Spring Craft Show today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Municipal Building on Community Park Drive; in addition, the free North Hills Home Show runs from Friday through Sunday at the North Park Sports Complex in Gibsonia with over 150 exhibits and demonstrations.  CBS Pittsburgh

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pittsburgh Regional Transit has proposed cutting 35% of its overall service and reducing ADA rides by 62% to federal minimum levels—many riders now face harder times for trips to work, doctors, or groceries. The cuts come amid funding troubles and pandemic losses and would also drop 40 routes, lessen 50 more, and end service in 19 communities, with the board set to vote next Friday.  WTAE

SPORTS NEWS

  • In the NCAA Tournament on March 21, No. 15-seed Robert Morris held No. 2-seed Alabama close for 37 minutes— but Alabama pulled ahead in the final minutes to win 90—81.  WPXI
  • The Pittsburgh Steelers face a high cost to trade for Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins as Atlanta asks for a third round pick plus a share of his $10 million guaranteed salary—making a move before the NFL Draft unlikely. Cousins, who wanted a new team after a season hurt by a torn Achilles, had his guarantee confirmed last Saturday.  PennLive
  • KDKA Radio will live broadcast the second annual Kickoff Classic at the historic Wolvarena in Turtle Creek with five high school football games featuring local teams and other Pennsylvania programs. The Friday, August 22 schedule has Woodland Hills at 5:00 p.m. and Pittsburgh Central Catholic at 8:00 p.m. — with more games on Saturday, August 23 — and tickets will go on sale this summer.  KDKA
