  • Audacy Pittsburgh is partnering with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank for its annual Feed the Need campaign on Tuesday, March 24, from 6AM to 6PM—aiming to help local residents tackle food insecurity by inviting donations via a text message.  KDKA
  • The Allegheny YMCA on the North Side reopened Monday at 600 W. North Ave following a year-long $26 million renovation. The historic center now offers updated workout spaces, improved pool, & enhanced accessibility along with nearly 100 affordable housing units.  The Tribune-Review

  • A nearly-four-year-old Pittsburgh-area girl suffered catastrophic internal injuries when an unsecured pool drain at an upscale resort in Mexico trapped her, leading to emergency surgery at UPMC Children's Hospital, and her parents now urge families to check pool drain covers and know the pool's emergency shutdown.  CBS Pittsburgh

  • Citizens Live at the Wylie, a live music venue across from PPG Paints Arena, will open in October with Wiz Khalifa headlining and subsequent shows by Styx, Boyz II Men, and Sting while creating 350 jobs and supporting neighborhood initiatives — a collaboration among business and city leaders.  WTAE
  • Chefs Jamilka Borges and Dianne DeStefano run Lilith, a busy Shadyside restaurant known for its soft pan sobao bread used in lobster rolls and crostini. They plan to open Giulia in Bloomfield, where coastal Italian dishes & fresh pasta will feature in a larger dining space.  NEXTpittsburgh

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sixteen Pitt faculty will receive the Chancellor’s Distinguished Awards for excellence in public service, research and teaching. Each will get a $2,000 prize and a $3,000 grant (to support their work) at the Faculty Honors Convocation on March 31 in Alumni Hall.  University Times
  • At the March 3 Community Engaged Scholarship Forum, leaders and faculty were honored for building local partnerships. Celeste Welsh received the Outreach and Engagement Leadership Award while Tina Ndoh was named CESF Collaboration Champion and several groups earned Partnerships of Distinction Awards.  University Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Thousands in Allegheny County remained without power as a windstorm and strong gusts disrupted repairs. Utility crews had expected to restore service by 10 p.m. Monday, but as of Tuesday many households still faced outages amid falling temperatures (cleanup continued).  WPXI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Sunday afternoon, about two dozen community members gathered at Bellevue’s Tavern Pizza for a town hall discussing local elections, school challenges, transportation, and affordable housing.
