CRIME NEWS

  • Community College of Beaver County was hit by a cyberattack Monday morning (cryptolocker) and officials locked down campus systems to protect data while students and faculty are on Spring Break.  KDKA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chartiers Valley School District will create an athletic hall of fame to honor its top student-athletes. A committee is forming to plan the project in the near future.  The Tribune-Review

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials for the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh announced an environmental plan that will replant 300 trees and plant 500 more with nonprofits (boosting local greenery). The plan funds beautification projects and a food recovery program (supporting 50,000 meals).  The Tribune-Review

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PRT construction on the University Line transit project will start Friday in Oakland and Uptown, changing traffic patterns and parking until the end of April. Work will shift lanes on Fifth and Forbes avenues and adjust bus stops as needed.  WPXI

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Pittsburgh Steelers have added four compensatory picks to boost their 12 selections for the 2026 NFL Draft, including one for losing Dan Moore Jr. and another for Justin Fields, plus two picks for trading Russell Wilson and Donte Jackson. The extra picks give the team more flexibility for upcoming offseason moves.  PennLive
  • The Steelers announced plans to sign free agent cornerback Jamel Dean and bring back Asante Samuel Jr. during the NFL’s legal negotiation period today to strengthen their secondary.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed veteran linebacker Cole Holcomb to a two-year, $5 million contract + the move secures his special teams role after a tough knee injury recovery. The team aims to bolster its depth as the season approaches.  PennLive
  • Former Steelers All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick was traded by the Dolphins to the Jets on Monday for a seventh-round pick and a 3-year ($40 million) extension. He joins New York after a standout tenure in Pittsburgh as a versatile defender.  PennLive
  • The Steelers re-signed cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. on Monday to a one-year, $4 million deal, and officials provided a hopeful update on Broderick Jones before the NFL’s next steps.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • After an overtime win over Syracuse on Saturday, Pitt earned the final bid for the ACC tournament and now prepares for a high-stakes contest against Stanford. Coach (Jeff Capel) is set to lead the Panthers as they aim for a strong start in the opener.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • Butler's Santino Sloboda wrestled in the bronze medal match at the PIAA championships today + he showed strong determination in every move, earning praise from his teammates.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • The Colts traded wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. to the Steelers, who signed him to a three-year, $59 million deal reported on March 9. Pittman tweeted his excitement (using 'BLACK AND GOLD') as he joins his new team.  WPXI
  • Pittsburgh will host two major college basketball events this month — the Atlantic 10 men’s tournament at PPG Paints Arena from March 11-15 and the NCAA Division II championships at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse from March 24-28.
