- ➤ Following a U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran and as Purim began Monday night, members of the Jewish community have reported anxiety even though no local threats have been reported in Pittsburgh. The Jewish Federation said local synagogues are working with law enforcement (local, state, and federal) to keep celebrations safe. WTAE

- ➤ A massive fire on March 2 caused thick smoke to billow from a building in Braddock and first responders were on scene (cause under investigation). WPXI
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ DeLallo Italian Market will open its new restaurant Mangia at Live Casino on April 9. The Italian eatery will replace Guy Fieri’s American Kitchen & Bar and offer a local twist at the venue. The Tribune-Review
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Pittsburgh is celebrating spring this month with events including a historic benefit and party at the Heinz History Center on March 6, a Home & Garden Show at the Lawrence Convention Center from March 6-15, and a Japanese film festival starting March 13, with many more community events scheduled throughout. - ➤ The Fort Pitt Museum unveiled Pittsburgh’s Revolution exhibition on Sunday (displaying rare Revolutionary War artifacts such as the original Westmoreland Battalion Flag and a letter from Patrick Henry) at Point State Park, and it will draw visitors in July ahead of the country’s 250th anniversary. - ➤ A PA Lottery Fast Play ticket worth $555,900 was sold on Feb. 28 at Shop 'n Save on Babcock Blvd in Shaler. The $20 Money Power Progressive ticket offers progressive prizes starting at $350,000 and gives winners one year to claim their prize. KDKA

- ➤ Washington High School nurse Ashley Brand helped students get essential items by using her own money and community donations. She regularly supported 30 to 40 students + started a food pantry that served 83 students during a January winter snowstorm. WTAE
- ➤ On Feb. 25, Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania Troop 10328 met with Sharpsburg Mayor Kayla Portis to learn how the borough council works. The fourth graders and junior-level Scouts earned their Inside Government badge (teaching them about rights and civic duties) while asking thoughtful questions. The Tribune-Review
- ➤ The University of Pittsburgh announced on Feb. 10 that undergraduate commencement will be held at Acrisure Stadium this spring so graduates can invite more guests. Some students report travel changes and concerns about the commute on the North Shore. The Pitt News
- ➤ Bethel Park High School teacher Leigh Ann Totty uses personal travel photos from Europe to guide her 10th-grade students in learning about the Holocaust by combining images of places like Terezín and Auschwitz with survivor recordings and historical texts. The Tribune-Review
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A study published in Annals of Global Health found that 11–12.5% of adult deaths in the Pittsburgh region in 2019 were linked to PM2.5 air pollution, with Allegheny County recording the highest levels (9.77 micrograms per cubic meter). Researchers also linked pollution to premature births and IQ loss in children. The Tribune-Review
- ➤ Pittsburgh Water's 2025 report shows the lowest lead level in the city's history at 2 parts per billion, well below the 15 ppb federal threshold, with 14,000 public and 10,000 private lead lines replaced since the mid-2010s. The utility will finish all replacements by 2027 at no cost to customers. The Tribune-Review
