  • The University of Pittsburgh ranked No. 12 in federally financed research and 17th overall in a national survey, boosting funding by 30% over five years — fueling advances in neuroscience, agriculture, engineering, psychology and artificial intelligence.  The Pitt News
  • After setting a record for first-year enrollment, Pitt's housing demand has made upperclassmen housing more competitive as students face lottery systems and rental challenges. The university will lease Wellington Apartments this fall and plan new dorm construction, intensifying competition for affordable units + raising local rents.  The Pitt News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pitt volleyball star Olivia Babcock (a two-time national player of the year) was named a finalist for the 2025 AAU Sullivan Award. Public voting (which began Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m.) will conclude March 5.  WPXI
  • The Penguins acquired Avalanche defenseman Samuel Girard (27) and a 2028 second-round pick in exchange for Brett Kulak. Girard is signed through the 2026-27 season with a $5 million average, and Penguins GM Kyle Dubas said the deal gives the team 34 selections over the next four NHL drafts.  WPXI
  • Pitt’s men’s basketball seeks to secure an ACC tournament bid in four upcoming games (Stanford, Cal, Florida State and Syracuse). Following a crucial win over Notre Dame, the Panthers now hope to bounce back after losing their top scorer.  The Pitt News
  • At the NFL Combine, Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson — a potential Steelers target — will not complete drills as he recovers from a hamstring injury. He recorded 1,101 receiving yards this season, and teams will assess his performance and injury history for the upcoming draft.  PennLive
  • NFL Films & U.S. Steel will air the 52-minute documentary 'The Football Town' at Kamin Science Center this Saturday, exploring the region's football history from high school to the Steelers before the NFL Draft on April 23.   • The Cowboys are expected to franchise tag former Steelers receiver George Pickens, a move that will net him over $28 million this season as they plan an extension. Pickens had 93 catches, 1,429 yards and 9 touchdowns last season — according to team official Stephen Jones.  PennLive
