  • On Feb. 14, a Pittsburgh postal worker found a lost wallet during his snowy route and drove 52 miles in sub-zero temperatures to return it to its owner in McDonald. He honored his father's good deed by saving cash, IDs and more from potential loss.  CBS Pittsburgh
  • Recovery is ongoing after a water main break damaged gear and trucks at Elrama Volunteer Fire Company in Union Township — the rescue truck is restored while the fire engine remains in repair and the squad truck was declared a total loss, prompting temporary operation from the municipal building.  WPXI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Department of Public Works crews took to the streets early Saturday to fill potholes using 30 trucks and special asphalt, and Mayor Corey O’Connor thanked the workers for keeping roads safe along Millvale Avenue, Centre Avenue, and Craig Street in Oakland.  WTAE
  • Electrical maintenance has suspended light rail service (between First Avenue and Gateway stations) from 8 p.m. on Fridays until service resumes Monday; the change will remain in effect through March 9.  WPXI

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Allegheny County Health Department said a Subway on Ridge Avenue in the North Side received 10 health code violations Thursday after food was stored at unsafe temperatures, with all affected items discarded and black mold (found under a sink faucet) noted during the inspection.  WTAE

  • Former Penguin and current NHL Network analyst Mike Rupp said he did not expect the team's surprising turnaround this season and noted how strong their performance has been recently.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • Former Steelers linebacker Sean Spence has been named the new inside linebackers coach for the Los Angeles Chargers. He followed defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary from Western Michigan, where he began his coaching career after injuries ended his NFL playing career.  PennLive
  • Nick Gonzales is set to cover three infield positions for the Pirates — he is also preparing to join Team Mexico in upcoming international play. This adjustment comes as the team works to resolve infield lineup uncertainty.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • Pirates' former pitcher Elroy Face died Feb. 12 in North Versailles one week before his 98th birthday (he helped win the 1960 World Series and set the National League record for relief wins).  WPXI
  • The Upper St. Clair Panthers, led by mostly new players and two veteran seniors, are 21-1 and the top seed in the WPIAL playoffs. They will face the winner between Fox Chapel and Norwin on Thursday at home with a chance to earn a rare three-peat.  CBS Pittsburgh
  • The Steelers are among favorites to sign retired quarterback Derek Carr if he opts for a comeback; bookies have him at +450 odds compared to the Vikings. Carr said he would return if healthy and finds a team with a real shot at the Super Bowl.  PennLive
