  • A Brookline family's snow-covered Barbadoes Avenue was finally cleared after five days by a city plow following a report from Action News 4, allowing their disabled child to attend missed medical appointments.  WTAE
  • Journalists, labor leaders and community members launched the PAPER initiative to explore a daily news alternative ahead of the Post-Gazette's final edition on May 3 — the group will fund community events to gather input for the future of local news.  WPXI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • UPMC donated $10M to purchase nine ambulances and a rescue truck last Thursday (freeing up funds for 35 DPW vehicles), Mayor Corey O’Connor announced. The city will phase in the new vehicles this year to improve emergency services.  WPXI
  • PennDOT announced that the inbound Parkway East is closed in the 'bathtub' section due to a water main break on Thursday and that I-376 between Grant Street and the Fort Pitt Bridge along with the Grant Street on‑ramp to westbound Parkway is closed; drivers should use the posted detour.  KDKA

  • Pittsburgh has nearly 2,000 condemned homes, but demolition crews could not keep pace amid costs over $50,000 per building despite 411 razings since 2020.
