  • Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O'Connor cleared driveways and sidewalks in the East End on Sunday as snow fell and 150 Snow Angels (volunteers) helped residents battle winter weather. The program pairs older residents and people with mobility challenges with neighbors for safe snow removal.  WTAE

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A car got stuck in snow on Western Pennsylvania's roads in Pine Township on Jan. 25, and local helpers quickly dug it out to allow safe travel.  WTAE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Point Park University and HXOUSE (an initiative by The Weeknd and his creative director La Mar Taylor) are launching a Creative Direction Credential Program at the downtown college. The program will train 50 students in early April through workshops in live entertainment, music and fashion.  The Tribune-Review

  • PA Turnpike officials say a new super plow—a 550-horsepower tri-drive truck (three rear axles)—tackled its first big winter storm yesterday on the highway, boosting the road network's readiness for future storms.  WPXI

  • PennDOT’s real-time tracker shows where its 2,200 snowplow trucks are clearing roads and spreading salt amid winter weather. Locals can view live plow routes and material usage on 511PA to plan safe travel.  WTAE

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Sunday, Jan. 25, a Pittsburgh mother gave birth on the side of Interstate 79 near the East Ohio Street exit — EMS quickly checked her and the newborn, who are doing fine. Later, heavy snowfall led officials to impose travel restrictions as 12 inches of snow was expected.  CBS Pittsburgh
  • A mother delivered her baby boy on Interstate 279 at the East Ohio Street Exit at 12:30 a.m. (local time) on Sunday during the winter storm; paramedics and state police quickly transported both to the hospital where they are doing fine.  WTAE
