  • Nemacolin reduced its workforce after calling employees to an unexpected meeting Tuesday (packets dated Nov. 4 were provided), according to a company statement. More than 150 positions were affected as the casino operator adjusts staffing in response to lower guest volume.  WTAE

  • Woodland Hills School District parents have demanded clearer spending oversight after the superintendent was placed on administrative leave last year+ they urge school officials to provide detailed financial reports.  CBS Pittsburgh

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Allegheny County is bracing for heavy snow as a major winter storm is expected to hit the region this weekend — emergency services are coordinating with state agencies to secure extra ice melters and snow shovels while city officials monitor road clearing.  WPXI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Allegheny County’s 1st Home Allegheny program helped 56 first-time buyers in summer 2025 by using $2.3 million in funds to offer up to $45,000+ in assistance for downpayment and closing costs. County Executive Sara Innamorato said the county will seek more funding from the Residential Finance Authority Board to continue the effort in 2026.  Allegheny County
  • West View officials improved safety along Highland Avenue after last year's fatal crash by repainting crosswalks and adding stop signs from nearby alleys while PennDOT studies a roundabout at Gas Road — a public meeting is planned for early fall.  The Tribune-Review

HEALTH NEWS

  • The health department has installed a free Narcan vending machine outside the Allegheny County Human Services Building in downtown; it is available all hours. This service aims to help prevent opioid overdoses in the neighborhood.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • Today, 900 nurses and advanced practitioners at UPMC Magee-Women's Hospital continue historic contract negotiations that began yesterday.
