  • Brookline Teen Outreach offers free after-school programs for about 270 kids ages 10 to 18 in South Pittsburgh. The nonprofit gives a safe space for play, creativity, and support while offering counseling and fun activities + snacks to help teens unplug and build healthy habits.  PublicSource

  • Sheetz announced that former President, CEO and Chairman Steve Sheetz died Sunday night at age 77. He began working at his brother's Sheetz Kwik Shopper in Altoona at age 12 and helped grow the chain to over 100 stores.  KDKA
  • Julia Gutkowski reopened her family’s old manor restaurant as Cafe 993 in Irwin in November, serving classic breakfast and lunch options; and the Ubers opened a second-hand clothing store in Hempfield on Dec. 4 to help families buy kids’ clothes at affordable prices.  The Tribune-Review

  • A Mega Millions ticket sold at Gordon’s Mini Mart on Rochester Road in Cranberry Township matched five numbers for a $4 million prize for Friday's drawing—earning the store a $10,000 bonus. Winners must sign the back of their ticket and contact the Lottery online to claim their prize.  KDKA

  • Burrell teacher Rich Thome carves wooden Christmas ornaments that raised about $760 at Bon Air Elementary's silent auction for UPMC Children’s Hospital this winter; he has crafted 150+ pieces over three years and plans to continue donating his art to help local patients.  The Tribune-Review

  • Sidney Crosby was named NHL's Second Star of the Week ending Jan. 4 with four goals, four assists and eight points in four games. His overtime goal against the Blue Jackets broke NHL history by marking his 50th career overtime point and kept the Penguins’ win streak alive.  WPXI
  • The Pittsburgh Steelers finalized their opponents for the 2026 season after winning the AFC North for the first time since 2020; the team will host the Ravens, Browns, and Bengals and travel to face NFC South teams and other division winners.  PennLive
  • Former Steelers quarterback Justin Fields is likely to be cut by the New York Jets after a poor season marked by injuries and low numbers; he managed 1,259 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception under a two-year $40 million deal, signaling a search for a backup role this offseason.  PennLive
