UPMC Magee welcomed Hellena at 12:16 a.m. to Fernando and Camila from West View and AHN Forbes Hospital birthed Marina at 12:19 a.m.—the Solis family from Irwin will receive a free year supply of diapers from Western PA Diaper Bank. - ➤ After 50 years in business, West Deer's Shop 'n Save is set to close at the end of February, forcing longtime customers to travel further for groceries. - ➤ A Pennsylvania Lottery raffle ticket worth $50,000 was sold north of Pittsburgh at Tic Toc Food Mart in North Beaver Township. It is one of 97,000 tickets purchased for eight weekly drawings offering prizes from $100 to $1 million & four $1M prizes scheduled ahead. KDKA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Parkway East work begins Monday as the first phase of this year's project, with single lane closures on weeknights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Edgewood/Swissvale and Churchill (daytime shoulder closures and traffic shifts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at key ramps will also take place) ahead of a month-long full closure. - ➤ On Sunday, Pittsburgh Regional Transit will close the Fifth Avenue outbound bus lane in Oakland — re-routing nine bus routes and eliminating 17 stops as part of its University Line bus-rapid transit project, which will also pave the way for a new two-way bike lane. The Tribune-Review
- ➤ Starting Monday, Jan. 5, three of the four lanes on Liberty Avenue in the Strip District will be closed near 2525 to 2625 for Pittsburgh Water’s valve replacement work (crews will work 24 hours daily for seven working days). Drivers will find detours via 25th, Small, and 30th Streets. WTAE
- ➤ Allegheny County's new Assisted Outpatient Treatment program began on Jan. 1 to offer people with mental illness & substance abuse an outpatient alternative to hospitalization. An advisory committee will meet quarterly to assess the program, which gives families and care providers added options under state law. WPXI

- ➤ Braydin Doubt, born weighing one pound (with less than a 1% chance), will leave Children's Hospital after nearly a year as his family celebrates his miraculous progress. He overcame challenges including anemia treatments and a COVID-19 bout and now looks forward to exploring life beyond the hospital. WTAE

- ➤ Kenneth Gainwell was named the Steelers’ team MVP by his teammates on Friday. The running back posted 65 catches for 422 yards and 109 rushes for 527 yards — a breakout season that set him apart from other candidates. PennLive
